How to Start a Home Based Internet Marketing Business

Once you have done that, you are ready to evaluate your niche ideas by checking out your potential competition for your keywords, and I am going to show you how you can do that quickly, easily, and best of all, absolutely FREE.

This can be a very cumbersome and time-consuming process. In the past, people have shelled out lots of money paying for expensive tools to research the competition for a keyword or niche.

But, like I said, you can now do it for free, and here's how. First, if you have not already done so, you have to download and install the free Firefox browser.

There are also many great add-ons or "extensions" written for Firefox, and we are going to use one very powerful extension to check out our competition for our home based internet marketing business.

So first, you might want to bookmark this page, in case you need to restart your computer after installation. Then, click here to download .

Once you have downloaded and installed Firefox, you need to download and install the free SEO for Firefox extension.

This is a wonderful and very powerful extension developed by Aaron Wall, who is one of the most knowledgeable people out there in the internet business community. It's a very cool tool that I use on a daily basis, and I'm really grateful to Aaron for developing it.

Once you have installed Firefox and the SEO for Firefox extension, you are ready to assess the competition for your home based internet marketing business, and here's how to do just that.

Checking out your competition

If you don't have your list yet, click here to start the process.

Now make sure you have your Firefox browser open and the Seo for Firefox extension working.

Next, head to the main Google search page at google.com. Enter your first keyword and click the "Google search" button. When the first results page comes up, you will find a whole range of information now listed under each result as in the screen shot below:

You now have a wealth of information at your fingertips that will allow you assess the competition for this keyword.

I have previously used the example of the keyword "internet business". The Wordtracker demand results for "internet business" included the keyword "start an internet business", which had a daily demand (search volume) of 379.

I entered "start an internet business" into Google in my Firefox browser, which gave me the results you see in the above screen shot.

So what does the information in these results mean? Let's examine one particular search result and find out:

Ideally, when you search for a keyword in this manner using the SEO for Firefox extension, you want a situation where most of the first ten sites listed have a Google Pagerank of 5 or under (more on what Pagerank is later), and have under 1,000 - 2,000 links pointing to the page listed ("Y! Page Links").

Finally, the newer the sites, the easier they are to compete with, so you want most of the sites to have been created after around 2002 (roughly).

So in this case, we have a (hypothetically) useable site concept keyword for our home based internet marketing business, and that keyword is: "Starting an Internet Business".

Your "assignment"

Then compare your results, remembering your IDEAL first ten Google search results for a keyword will have:

• Pageranks 4 or under.
• Fewer than 1,000 Yahoo Page Links.
• Mostly created in 2002 or later.

So once you have compared your niches and keywords, pick the one keyword that best fits these criteria (assuming you are passionate about all your potential niches). And that's it - you have your site concept!
